Deciding What to Wear to Travel on a Plane

Look up. It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No, it’s you flying on a plane, uncomfortable, disheveled, and knowing that you will arrive looking like the supporting actress in an airplane disaster movie where you were forced to eat your fellow travelers. To avoid this all too common scenario you must pay careful attention to deciding what to wear to travel on a plane.

Here are three stylish and comfortable strategies for deciding what to wear to travel on a plane:

    • For just a little bit of comfort you should wear the ultimate travel outfit as defined by Michael Kors in Nina Garcia’s book, The Little Black Book of Style. He states that the best travel outfit is a pair of white jeans, a black cashmere turtleneck, and a pair of black ballet flats. Jeans are not the most comfortable option for a long flight, they are more comfortable than dress pants, although you may have to take it easy with the free cookies in first class unless you want to have to unbutton your top button.

    • For medium comfort try wearing leggings, boots with no heel, a plain top, and a wrap cardigan, which is a cardigan that can also function as a wrap (think of it like a more stylish Snuggie). Leggings are closest option to sweats that can still be considered stylish so they are a travel no-brainer. The boots without a heel make it easy to run through airport terminals in case you are running a little late and they provide a little extra warmth during the flight. The wrap cardigan will keep you warm at 30,000 feet and allow you to forego the influenza Petri dish also known as the airplane blanket.

  • For maximum comfort there is a celebrity trick where you will not have to sacrifice comfort for style. You wear a very stylish outfit onto the plane and then once you are in the air and the fasten seatbelt light dims, you head to the bathroom to switch into your track suit and Uggs that you had stored in your carry-on bag. Then right before landing, you make your way again to the bathroom and put on your stylish outfit. Then you arrive to your destination nice, fresh, dishevel-free and ready for the paps – paparazzi not gynecological!

Whether traveling for business or pleasure, you always want to arrive looking your best and deciding what to wear with these three options will put you on the stylish road less traveled.  MK shoulder bag
