If you’re a homeowner or tenant, you may be eligible to receive a free cavity wall insulation grant. The government’s Energy Companies Obligation (ECO) scheme and other official bodies provide these grants for households on low income threshhold to help them save money by reducing their heating bills through effective home insulation.
You’ll be amazed at how much heat is lost through the walls of your property if they aren’t insulated. Up to a third of your heating bill is wasted, and this can be significantly reduced with the installation of cavity wall insulation. This will also reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that’s produced by your heating system, preventing greenhouse gases from speeding up climate change.
The good news is that if you qualify, the cost of the insulation work will be paid for by the government through ECO4. You’ll need to meet certain eligibility rules in order to receive the funding, but you can check your own details on the ECO4 website.
If you don’t meet the requirements for the ECO4 funding, but you’re on a low income or own a privately rented property, you may still be able to get help with the installation of your cavity wall insulation through the Local Authority Flexible Energy (LA Flex) scheme. This scheme is also overseen by the energy efficiency body Ofgem and offers similar benefits to ECO4. The LA Flex application form can be found on the Ofgem website.
